Fail Video: ESPN Anchor Makes Entire Soccer Community Facepalm

I’m not going to beat around the notional bush here: I like soccer, and I would love to attend an actual football game with 100,000+ other screaming, drunk fans at some point in my life across the pond, but I don’t follow the European leagues or the MLS here in the States.  Don’t get me wrong: soccer is an awesome game, and I even played it basically all throughout high school, but basketball is my favorite sport.  That being said, if I were a SportsCenter news anchor, I would have at least made sure I knew what the heck I was about to be talking about on national television, something this fail-worthy anchor completely, well, failed to do.

Old Sprite Commercial Never Disappoints

I think one of the hardest things to do in film is to scream and mean it. Countless times a teenage girl screams in an action movie and we’re not that sold. Or a killer is on the loose and he screams at his victims just before he kills them: contrived.

But every so often we get a good one. Remember Marv from Home Alone? McCauley Caulkin puts a tarantula on his head during the home invasion. Pretty sure I haven’t seen a better scream since. Continue reading “Old Sprite Commercial Never Disappoints”

Milk vs Red Bull: Video Analysis From an Austrian Farmer

There are some videos floating around the Internet that once you start watching, for whatever reason become just impossible to shut off.  Today, SQ Nation, I present to you one of those videos: ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to cordially meet Petutschnig Hons, an Austrian farmer whose first name may be the final question in next week’s 2014 National Spelling Bee on ESPN.  He also apparently has some serious issues with Red Bull – more on this unique video after the link!

Video: Charlie Day’s Merrimack College Commencement Address

It’s that time of the year again: graduation.  Quick: think back to your college graduation.  Can you remember who your commencement speaker was?  Chances are you can’t, but don’t feel left out because I can’t remember either.  If you were smart enough to attend one of the more prestigious universities for your undergraduate tenure, then your chances were likely higher of getting a high profile celebrity alumni or guest speaker to deliver your commencement address – that’s exactly what happened yesterday at Merrimack College in Massachusetts (yes, I had to look up where the heck Merrimack College was).  Apparently, the hilarious Mr. Day is a 1998 alumni from Merrimack College, so this isn’t a surprise invite.  Enjoy the entertaining speech, and as always more after the leap!

Why Nintendo is Struggling with the Average Gamer

Tough to write about Nintendo as a thing of the past. Unfortunately, that’s just what it seems to be.

Sure, we have Zelda, and Mario and Samus, but you know what we don’t have? A console worth buying.

Maybe Nintendo got too cute. Maybe they hit exactly where they aimed. Maybe they’re simply out of touch with the modern gamer.

And in order to make a come back, offense is necessary. Where’s Nintendo’s offense? We’re wondering the same thing. Continue reading “Why Nintendo is Struggling with the Average Gamer”

Week In Review

You’re quickly learning that Slightly Qualified likes all things pop culture. Throw in military videos and gaming panache, and we’re probably one of the more eclectic websites you’ve had the pleasure of viewing. We’re a diversified portfolio of interweb goodness.

Raffman posted about a crossfit chap who did 106 – scratch that – zero pull ups at once. He also talks about a 500 lb bomb that almost hit the wrong soldiers. Raffman also discusses a few iOS games like Knifehand and Wayward Souls. And to keep us in touch with our memes, he collected all kinds of fun ginger and Canada pics for your perusing enjoyment. Make sure you don’t miss out on Bill Murray impersonating Harry Caray either.

I had fun writing about some Pandora stations you probably should be listening to. We’re still quoting from these five movies and cannot, for the life of us, stop it. Technically, these were from last week, but make sure you pick up the new Black Keys album Turn Blue and three minutes of your life is a small price for watching Eric Bana in the Deliver Us From Evil trailer.

Our friends at Linkiest are covering everything from athletes to unicorns. LFGdating remains the only dating site for the gamer/geek/nerd in you. And Clumsy Crooks catalogues all things insanely stupid about criminals and their inability to do their job well.

Bill Murray Does Harry Caray Impersonation for the Toledo Mun Hens’ Ghostbuster Night

Although I grew up in Chicago with Harry Caray and the Cubs (go White Sox, btw), thanks to the broadcasting monstrosity that is WGN just about everyone in the world knows who Harry Caray was, and how awesomely not sober his broadcasts were.  I remember vividly laying on the floor watching a Cubs game on WGN as a kid, and one of the Cubs players hit what looked like a routine pop fly that made it barely out of Wrigley’s infield.  Harry started going nuts with his iconic, “waaaay back, waaaaaay back”, only for it to be caught – no, not at the warning track – but a step outside of the infield.  I remember laughing then about it, but I just thought he was weird; now I know that it was probably the Old Style talking!  We’ve all seen the stellar impersonation that Will Ferrell does of Harry, but have you seen Bill Murray’s?  Enjoy the video, and as always more after the jump!

Funny Local News Blooper Video for April 2014

Well May has finally arrived, although some parts of the country it probably doesn’t feel quite as warm as it should.  Houston, thankfully, is not one of those areas – it’s already pretty darn hot.  But while you wait for warmer temps to finally set in as we get closer to summer, why not pass the time laughing hysterically at some of the funniest local news bloopers caught on video from April?  This news blooper montage video is pretty epic: it kicks off with a complete face palm moment from Fox News, and then will just keep you laughing all the way to the finish line.  Your Thursday afternoon just got that much better!

Harry Potter vs Star Wars Funny Video

Yeah, so I really am not a fan of Harry Potter – I’ve tried the movies, and even one of the books, and I just can’t get in to anything that begins with Harry and ends with Potter.  Now Star Wars on the other hand I love – I grew up with Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, and I am pumped for the latest movie – which now all the original stars will be acting in!  So with that being said, I was a little skeptical about the Harry Potter half of this video, but I was dead wrong: this video is extremely well done, highly entertaining, and is without a doubt a must-see funny video.  Watch it now!

Fail Video: Kid Sings Let it Go

If you’ve seen the latest Disney animated movie “Frozen”, then you most likely have heard the Oscar Award winning song “Let It Go”.  If you’re that guy/gal that’s jamming out to it on the freeway on your way to work every morning, then that’s a different story; we recommend you find help on that little issue as soon as possible.  Anyway, this epic fail video will definitely entertain you whether you’ve seen Frozen or not, because it is just plain awesome.  I don’t want to spoil it, so just watch it – as in right now.

Crazy Orange County Police Car Chase Video

While this is technically an “oldie” in terms of Internet viral videos, it was new to me so chances are it will be new to most of SQ Nation as well.  Who doesn’t love a good car chase, especially one where the fleeing driver is evading Anaheim police in a freaking Kia Soul?  Yes, you read that correctly: not a new Camero, nor a BMW M3 – a Kia Soul.  You know, that tiny, toaster-shaped Kia SUV that annoyed the heck out of the entire world with that stupid commercial of the mice driving and jamming out to “Party Rock”?  Yeah, I just got the chills thinking about it again too – sorry about that.  Watch this video – it’s one of the best car chases not involving a white Bronco that I’ve ever seen, and the end features a nice surprise!

Portlandia Trail Blazers Post-Game Speech Video

Off the top of my head I probably have 5-10 television shows that I have always wanted to watch, but simply don’t have the time to actually sit on my fancy fake leather couch and take them in.  Portlandia – an IFC comedy starring former SNL cast member and comedian Fred Armisen – is one of those shows.  While I never thought Fred was the greatest SNL cast member – hey, I’m being honest – every trailer and commercial for Portlandia always made me laugh, and this Portlandia Trail Blazers post-game motivational speech video is no different.  Enjoy the video – more slightly qualified Portlandia thoughts after the link!
