Richard Hammond and the Subtle Humor that Makes Top Gear Rock

If we were playing Family Fued, and trust me, you’d want me on your team, what would be the number one answer to the question of what’s the most popular BBC network television show in America?  If you guessed Top Gear, the awesome and always hilarious show about cars featuring Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson, then you’d almost certainly be right – at the very least it would definitely be in the top three.  What makes the show so spectacular isn’t just the fact that these two normal looking guys get to test drive the world’s most expensive cars – that’s an awesome draw, don’t get me wrong – but the fact that the two together are just hilarious.  They’re also pretty funny on their own, as you’ll see from the stellar funny pic below!

Original Audition Video for The Office Cast, Featuring Seth Rogan as Dwight

You’re not going to believe who tried out for the main cast roles of NBC’s epic comedy The Office.  We’ve already revealed Seth Rogan, but you’re going to have to watch the video to see who else showed up at the audition!  The hilarious thing: the actual cast chosen was perfect, and many to most American television viewers were absolute nobodies at the time.  Must see video!

UH-1Y Huey Minigun and Rockets in Slow Motivating Motion

If you’re soul is searching for some much needed Monday morning motivation before you have to face Lumbergh – or maybe the company 1stSgt -, then look no further than the epicness that is the UH-1Y Huey aerial arsenal.  Firing up to 6,000 rounds per minute, the Huey’s minigun literally lights up the sky at night with rounds pouring down so quickly it looks like spiraling lasers, and the rocket system?  That’s not too shabby either.  They are even more motivating when you watch them in slow-motion; enjoy the video and hit the link below for more commentary!

It’s Still Always Sunny in Philadelphia Montage Trailer

Can you believe that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been on the air now for nearly 9 years?  I can’t even think of one good show FX aired before Always Sunny debuted, but now they have a metric crap ton of high quality shows, from The Americans to everyone’s favorite, sarcastic spy Archer.  I do vividly remember however seeing the very first trailer for Always Sunny though – well before the show actually launched – and it was just one of those moments where you somehow know – for a damn fact – that whatever it was you just witnessed, be it a show or movie, is going to be legendary.  Kinda like when we all saw the first trailer for the movie Taken.  Yeah. So since it’s Monday, and I just came across this stellar Always Sunny montage trailer, I felt what better way to keep the nostalgia train rolling!

Fight Video: Woman Attacks Kid for Flying a Drone on a Beach

Now here’s something you don’t see everyday – watch this kid (I say kid because quite honestly I don’t think he’s older than 18 or 19) get the crap kicked out of him by one Amanda Mears, who obviously thought her privacy settings in real life were at the maximum – well she was wrong.  While we do know a few of the details about what happened here – just tap the link below for the story as we know it – it really does shed light on a huge privacy concern, because a public beach is just that – public.  But when does it go too far?  This is definitely one of those gray areas, but wow what a shocking video.

Funny Orange Is the New Black Pics – Netflix Takes Captioning to an Entirely New Level

My wife – who I love to death – has had June 5th, 2014, carved into her iPhone calendar since probably January of this year, because that was the official release date for the second seasons of Netflix’s latest smash television series, Orange Is the New Black (OITNB for short).  While I have not seen the show before – I never really got into Oz, so why would I like OITNB? – I have started to notice some hilarious caption screenshots around the Internet, so I thought it would be funny to put them all in one place.  That is, of course, if any of you OITNB fans aren’t too busy binge-watching season two.  Hit the link below for the funny OITNB pics, and yes, I guarantee the caption guy/gal at Netflix definitely is getting a raise!

5 Subtle Life Lessons Learned from the Movie Independence Day

There are those handful of movies that when you see that they’re on television you’ll watch, even if you’ve seen the film a million times already.  Whether it’s late at night, or a lazy Saturday afternoon on the couch, if Bloodsport or Behind Enemy Lines comes on there’s a 99.9% chance my butt is not leaving the couch.  However if Independence Day comes on, that percentage just hit 100%.

But there may be something you didn’t know about Independence Day, which believe it or not will turn 18 years old this July.  Having just watched Will Smith and Randy Quaid expel the city-leveling alien force yet again this past week, I came across some very subtle life lessons – five of them, to be exact – that may just surprise you.

US Soldier Survives Taliban Machine Gun Fire in Valley Firefight

While we have posted countless Afghanistan combat videos to date, none have been as jaw dropping as the video you will witness above.  Thankfully this soldier wasn’t hurt, but this is one of those rare combat videos which I think will help the civilian side understand that going off to war is not glorious, nor is it anything like Call of Duty.  Don’t miss this video folks – full story line behind this video after the jump.

How to Lose Your Job, If You’re a Lieutenant

Newly commissioned officers in the Marine Corps – and I can only assume this guide will translate to my counterparts in the Army – get absolutely inundated with leadership advice, and for good reason: they are about to take responsibility not just for some company’s new project or marketing plan, but for a platoon of Marines.  So why do they fail?  Where is the disconnect?

I would argue that the consistent theme of failure is actually more precise than many believe – especially at the entry level leadership position that is Second Lieutenant.  In fact, I would argue – and I will below – that there are six primary causes for relief of command at the platoon leader level, some stronger than others, and quite frankly none all that revolutionary.

What this article is not  is another guide on leadership advice, as there are plenty of those – in the past two months alone I’ve come across three different platoon oriented leadership guides on Tom Ricks’ Best Defense Blog at ForeignPolicy.com here, here and here.  Rather, this is a guide for new lieutenants on what not to do – from a practical, bottom-line-up-front perspective, when they take that first coveted step into platoon command.  The goal, or end state if you will (hey, I’m in the IRR), is to provide awareness to those wide-eyed, leadership advice-seeking sponges with gold bars on their collars so that they can focus their time on not only what they’ve been trained to do, but their most important task: leading Marines or Soldiers.
