While I know this video got passed around the Interweb by almost the entire world yesterday – I saw it just when I had to leave for work in the morning, so I wasn’t able to publish it – I just have to make sure this gets thrown up on SQ.  If you’re one of our faithful SQ regulars, you’re probably well aware of my deep affinity for anything Goldeneye; a while back I posted a Goldeneye 64 speed run challenge on 00 Agent (the Aztec bonus level), but still am waiting on a brave challenger.  Goldeneye, just like Jimmy said in the beginning of this awesome video, is hands down one of the best video games of all time, and I would be hard pressed to not drop it in my top three. If you grew up with a Nintendo 64, you likely spent most of your time playing Goldeneye – do not pass up on this video!

5 Most Frustrating Video Gaming Elements of My Childhood (That Naturally Still Piss Me Off Today)
May201421

Video games are supposed to be fun, not frustrating.  Challenging sure, but when you’re seven years old and your parents are helping you fill out your first Anger Management class application because you just pushed over your dad’s brand new Zenith television set after activating real-life beast mode, something is wrong.  Blowing in the ends of NES game cartridges to make them work?  That was fun!  Seeing your AOL Internet connection time out just as your engineer in Command & Conquer was about to capture your opponent’s MCV because your family only had one phone line?  Completely not fun – and you know what, it is still frustrating to think about today.  Come to think of it – I can count five of my most frustrating video game moments from my childhood that still irritate the heck out of me, some twenty plus years later.  Some may classify this as a recurring rage problem; I like to call it simply my passion for (un-interrupted, frustration free) gaming.

5 Video Games That Destroyed My GPA
May201324

I have been a gamer since my grandmother bought us an NES for Christmas back in the late 80’s, and it’s been a passionate hobby ever since.  Sure I don’t get to play nearly as much as I did when I was a kid growing up (I miss summer break), but that’s life, and I couldn’t be happier right now.  That being said, it’s always fun to get a little nostalgic, especially when we’re talking about retro gaming.  Now that I’m pursuing my MBA, and taking school seriously (thank you Marine Corps!), it makes me laugh pretty hard at how much gaming took priority over my grades, whether I was in eight grade or a senior in college.  Narrowing my list down to the most influentially, GPA-degrading games from my past was hard; my initial brainstorm list totaled 12 pretty prominent games from my school days, so it was pretty tough to pick a Top 5.  But enough with the intro; let’s check out the games!

What’s the Worst Thing About Online Gaming?
May201302

This question will make our gamers out there in SQ Nation chuckle out loud; I know I did.  There are just too many things that come to mind that you could argue.  Profanity?  The lack of maturity?  Camping?  “Your mom” jokes?  Lag?  I think I could come up with 100 different things that blow orifices about online gaming, and I think you could too.  Although I mostly reach for the single player venues currently, via Demon’s Souls and Diablo 3, I do jump into the StarCraft 2 arena pretty frequently, although I’m still learning.  Gone are the days when I used to destroy people online in Red Alert, and don’t even get me started about Goldeneye.  Hit the link below for a hilarious take on one gamer’s position on what the worst aspect about online gaming is.  I think most of us will be able to relate!

24 Things That Prove Video Games Are All Grown Up
Apr201330

It’s sad to think about, but I turn the fresh young age of 30 in approximately three weeks.  I’ve been gaming for just about every single one of those years since my original spawn in 1983, and it started with many of the games/systems on the hilariously nostalgic list below. I’m looking forward (in a weird way) to the day when I’m 60, to see what the average “gaming age” will be then; it will be like the jokes that started on Facebook a few years ago that asked the question, “What happens when we all start getting old?”  Awesome photo roll below that’s sure to make your Tuesday less crappy!

Real Life Goldeneye 64 Video0

Posted like a champ in Play, Watch

Like my eloquent sidekick mentioned in our “what the heck is slightlyqualified.com page“, I have an affinity for Goldeneye 64, and by affinity I mean addiction.  I don’t know how I missed this extremely well done parody of the game, especially seeing how it already has more than 1M views, but I’d wager if I haven’t seen it, then others haven’t either.  Enjoy the awesome Goldeneye 64 parody video, and hit the link below for more behind the scenes footage!

I’m a man of my word. In response to my last post on WikiHow’s How to Get Your Girlfriend to Play Video Games, I promised I’d throw together a comprehensive guide on a much more important issue: How to Get a Girlfriend, If You’re a Gamer. You see, before you can try to fanoogle your girlfriend into playing video games, you actually need to have a girlfriend in the first place. That girl you kidnapped and have tied up in your garage; she doesn’t count, sorry. Like in your favorite scientific journal (I prefer Maxim Popular Science), authors usually list their edumacational background to validate their arguments. For this guide, I intend to follow the same outline, so let’s take a lil’ gander at my slightly qualified credentials, shall we?  [Click here to read on!]

Goldeney 007 for the legendary Nintendo 64 stands as arguably the greatest game of all-time, at least from this guy’s opinion.  At the very least, Rare’s epic Bond title will hold a permenent spot in my Top 5 Greatest Games List, and likely most everyone else’s as well (it had better!)  But enough of the grab-ass; let’s move on to the challenge!  Hit the link below for the challenge details, and pull your N64 out of the attic, because it’s Boris time.

In October 2011, From Software released an unofficial sequel to the deathly-hard, highly-addicting “Demon’s Souls” under the similar name, “Dark Souls”.  Since then, the equally hard sequel has been rung up at cash registers around the world a whopping 2.3 million times.  That’s a staggering sales figure for any game, but for a title that many consider a “hardcore gamer niche”, that arguably makes it even more impressive.  As a huge fan of the series (please tell me this isn’t your first SQ experience), I am not surprised but if you had asked me yesterday for a SWAG estimate on the number of units moved, I would have came back with about 1-1.25M; I would have never thought that the 2 million barrier had been broken, but I am happy that it has because folks, this series is absolutely bad ass.  If you haven’t read much of my prose here at SQ, all you need to read is what my eloquent and esteemed colleague wrote in our official SQ “About” page; if you happened to have been addicted to Goldeneye’s Control Mission on 00 Agent mode like myself, then this series is for you.  Don’t even watch a trailer, or finish reading this article; go to your local game shack and pick at least one of these two titles up.  End of story.
