Coming out in theaters today is This Is The End – a spoof of apocalyptic proportions – and we can’t wait to see it. Here’s why.
People have been picking days on the calendar to be the “end of the world” for centuries now, so I think humanity is kind of immune to them. The Mayans maybe had the biggest following, but look how that one ended up: we’re all still here, and the six of you that read this secretly awesome website are happy and well. Hollywood has of course done their part over the years, as global doom will certainly sell movie tickets, however today we look back at probably the coolest movie of 1997, when your’s truly was a freshman in high school, and the six of you were, well, I have no idea (we suck at keeping demographics at this point). Ray Liotta, mob movie. That’s all Hollywood movie studios need to say in their movie trailer to literally guarantee millions of dollars of box office revenue from pretty much the entire male population in America. The Iceman hits theaters soon on May 3rd, and it features a rather unique cast, at least in terms of your typical mob flick. Outside of Ray Liotta, who arguably defined the genre, and Michael Shannon, who just looks great in a mob role, did anyone else raise an eyebrow when they say Winona Rider, Chris Evans, and James Franco on the main cast credits line? Don’t get me wrong, Chris Evans and James Franco are great (not a huge Winona fan), but neither stand out to me for this type of movie. Sure, Mr. Evans has done some action flicks, but this appears to be an out of the ordinary film for him, and with the film’s almost sure success, will really help round out his career. The film looks dark, gruesome, and Ray Liotta: you don’t need to tell me much else for me to go see it. Now convincing my wife to go see it with me … that’s a different story.
Summer is almost upon us, and that means its time for the Hollywood film studios to bombard us with preparatory fires for their upcoming “summer blockbusters”. Brad Pitt’s chance at summer fame will land on June 21st in the form of “World War Z”, which is a humanity’s-last-stand, apocaplytpic zombie free for all that is based off the famous Max Brooks novel with the same title. I’m not into the whole zombie craze, but I appear to be in the minority in this country as it seems every other show or movie out these days has something to do with zombies. Regardless, check out the trailer for World War Z, and post your comments below!
