Raise your hand if you knew who Zach Galifianakis was before Y2K hit? Seriously, be honest now – did you? Most people remember or think of Zach’s first role from the highly underrated movie Out Cold, but that didn’t come out until 2001, when your’s truly was just a freshman in college. If you guessed The Hangover, well, you’re way off. Try 1999ish, folks. Crazy, right? Well what you’ll find above is the mega-star that is Zach Galifianakis doing stand-up way back in that very year, just before his meteoric rise began to take shape. The setting is Luna Park in West Hollywood, and I can’t think of a better or funnier way to kick off your Monday morning!

While was picking up lots of substantial sidekick work after Out Cold in the acting world, along with plenty of stand-up work (his “Live at the Purple Onion” DVD is hilarious, btw!), it really wasn’t until he won the role of Alan in The Hangover that his career began to truly skyrocket. Now most people would put Zach’s name right up there with the biggest comedians in Hollywood, and rightfully so. But in 2009? Most people still wouldn’t have known who he was, except for maybe a rising comedic star who definitely possessed a lot of potential.
